September marks Suicide Awareness Month (plus Suicide Prevention Week, Sept. 6-12, and Suicide Prevention Day on Sept. 10).
The statistics are alarming:
- 10% of young adults say they experienced suicidal thoughts in the past year
- 17% of high school students say they seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year
- The overall suicide rate in the U.S. has increased by 31% since 2001
We can take actions to prevent suicide. Check out our guide to suicide prevention, which includes warning signs, risk factors, and advice for support in a crisis.
