In all instances of mental illness or addiction, one common factor cited by those who have achieved success in treatment is finding the one treatment plan that works. Because all people are different, all cases of mental illness and addiction will be different as well, so one method that may work wonderfully for one individual may have little to no effect on another. One style of treatment that works in the vast majority of cases, however, is self-centered treatment, and this is a treatment plan that allows people to work at their own pace towards their mental health goals.

You centered treatment encompasses many different forms of treatments, and there is no single form that is considered “you-centered”. What focusing the treatment plan around the individual is able to accomplish is taking a look at everything that makes up the entirety of an individual, and using this information to craft the best personalized treatment plan that is most likely to work for them.

You centered treatments don’t only work for mental illnesses like anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or similar conditions, but for substance addiction conditions as well. How this type of treatment is able to help so universally is by looking at each person as an individual, rather than as their symptoms, as their statistics, or as their medical chart. By doing this, a person is able to find a myriad of different treatment options that can get to the root cause of what could be worsening their mental state, and starting from the ground up is able to build a sturdy foundation of health.

We know how important the individual is in any treatment plan at NAMI, and that’s why we feel that this is such as great method of approaching treatment for any sort of mental condition. Through focusing on you as the individual, you can take a more comprehensive approach to your own mental health.
