Good news. The California Department of Health has updated its COVID-19 vaccine eligibility guidance for March 15 to specifically include those with serious mental illness in the “People with High-Risk Medical Conditions or Disabilities.” The list of eligible people ages 16-64 deemed to be at the very highest risk to get very sick from COVID-19 now includes those with serious mental illness (SMI) or serious substance use disorder (SUD). See their updated advisory. Earlier this month, we signed a letter with a coalition of health advocates urging the CDH to make this change.
