Presidential Candidates on Mental Health
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a proud member of Mental Health For US, a nonpartisan, educational coalition elevating mental health and addiction in policy conversations around the country.
The coalition released candidate responses to their survey, which included 11 questions on mental health, drug overdose, criminal justice reform, and equal access to care.
“We’re glad that candidates are engaging in this vital topic and sharing their views and plans,” said NAMI Acting CEO Angela Kimball. “But this is just the beginning – we hope more policymakers and candidates will make it a priority for people to get care early, get the best possible care, and get diverted from the criminal justice system.”
Coming up: The coalition is bringing together presidential candidates and our community to talk about mental health and addiction during public forums in Iowa, New Hampshire, and California. Candidates will discuss their plans and voters will ask questions about these issues ahead of the Iowa caucuses.
